Caught two in quick succession last night (this am 00:30). Bright white blue streaks. Early start tomorrow so gonna miss them.

Was hoping for another clear night but nope, lots of clouds again.

It's just cleared here so have seen quite a few this evening. Have a sore neck now though.

Cloud yesterday, cloud today. Same as last year, the year before, and every other year I can remember frown

I know that feeling. This was the first time in at least 4 years I've seen them as it's usually clear skies for the few days before followed by cloud/rain, storms at the peak. I can guarantee that for the next week it'll be clear skies.

Had clear skies last night where i am in Aberdeenshire up until about 10ish, saw a fair few meteors between 9-10pm, must have been this!

Most quite small fleeting ones but there was one in particular burned for a while and saw the trail it left across the sky very impressive.

HOWEVER it was what brought my attention the night sky in the first place that was weird...
I was putting the rubbish out when I saw quite bright flashes in the sky towards the North (which was the general direction most of the meteors i saw where heading)
When I say flash, not like a point of light but the whole horizon lighting up, like a lightning strike might light it up, but without seeing the actual strike if you see what I mean?

But there was no sound and it didn't look stormy in the distance. I thought it was lightning at first but then i started seeing the meteors and they seemed to coincide, a few seconds after seeing the meteor "streak" there would sometimes be this flash that lit up the north horizon. I haven't seen this before.

Did anyone else see this? Is this normal? do they explode or flash towards the end of their life or something?

Tell you in the dark by yourself seeing the combination of the meteors streak overhead and the sky lighting up in the distance was quite cool but a bit disconcerting at the same time if i'm honest!
