Nobel Prize - Chemistry
Discussion
Hi everyone
I wanted to share the news on this year's Nobel prize in chemistry, which was awarded to Eric Betzig, Stefan Hell and William Moerner for their work in the field of materials science, more specifically developing optical microscopy for the purposes of investigating biological processes including G-protein coupled receptors which are important proteins involved in cellular signalling.

Previously, in 2012, the Nobel prize was awarded to Robert Lefkowitz and Brian Kobilka for their work concerning receptor proteins, which this work no doubt draws heavily upon.
A previous Nobel prize award given to Richard Heck, Ei-ichi Negishi and Akira Suzuki for their work in carbon-carbon bond formation and transition metal catalysis is one that sticks out to me, having studied such chemistry and applied it to my own organic chemistry syntheses over the past few years.
