Not too sure if this is the right place for the post but couldn't think of anywhere else.

Now if you could petition for a Sci-Fi related project what would it be?

Zero point energy.

Not sure what that is, but it sounds cool.

Free/very low cost electricity; it would enable the crappy backwards bits of the world to reach a decent level of economic growth, reduce infant mortality and childbirth thus stabilising the population, reinvigorate the developed economy and speed the human race towards Mars and beyond.

Agreed, 4 hours a day travelling. Judging by the fact the train i get is almost full when i get on it is worse for many.

Still needs no new tech to solve. Home working would do that.

Teleporters would be great but it would depend on who would operate the service, the current transport goliaths don't really have a great history. Airlines normally have your luggage arriving later than yourself, and the various post services keep losing your parcels.

In the event of Teleporters would Pistonheads become Portalheads ??

Teleporters wouldn't work, you would need to book ahead, pay exorbitant rates to park at the station, then queue for two hours while going through security before having your body zapped to your destination and your legs to Brussels.

The extra baggage allowance would be pretty steep.

Holodeck

or Hoverboards.....although they are supposed to be on sale next year anyhow, so might be a wasted request.

Are you sure it was an ad for a store and not Back to the Future II.

Holodeck would be cool, and would pretty much destroy prostitution rings around the globe overnight. Although it might be trumped with the Kill the MiL app.

Are we only allowed to petition for things that aren't physically possible? frown

Possible or not, only criteria is that it's still to be invented, i.e. you would petition for its creation.

My plan would be to use a centrifugal/petal force concentrator. When that exceeds gravity, up she rises!

I have no idea if that's real or from an episode or Star Trek. sounds cool though. Does it make pretty lights or cool sounds.

It was definitely an ad for a store. It was on after the news one night immediately after the 100% accurate weather report - and right before they showed a trailer for Jaws 19.

Aren't you thinking of replicators. Holodecks are a derivation of force field technology.
