Whilst travelling on the up escalator (one of those smooth trolley ones) in a supermarket, what would happen if you were to drop a Malteser? Would it roll to the bottom? Would it be carried to to the top? Or would it roll on the spot neither going up or down?

Depends on a lot of things, like the speed of the escalator, the rolling resistance of that malteser, the friction of the escalator, the melting point of chocolate and lots of other stuff.

My gut feeling is that the escalator would be slower than the malteser and it would roll to the bottom.

Someone would step on it and kill it. You would never get it back alive.

I actually saw this in Asda (obviously I normally shop in Waitrose) and the Malteser just rolled on the spot, I guess it must have been the perfect weight. Anything heavier would roll to the bottom.

it would crumble into a million pieces when the person behind you stands on it.

It would probably roll to the bottom unless it got caught on some of the metal. Strange question confused

So...If I threw a bag of Revels on the aforementioned escalator, I would suggest that the following would occur (based on guessing weight and rolling resistance):

In Order from staying near the top
1. Galaxy counters (no chance of rolling)
2. Raisins (not quite round)
3. Maltesers (light but perfectly round)
4. Orange (heavier than most)
5. Toffee (denser than most)
6. Coffee creme (best place for them)
