solar roadways
Discussion
For starters....
Cost of installation and supporting infrastructure especially in rural areas
Cost of repairing damaged sections and infrastructure
Resilience to differing weather conditions
Questions over the length of life for each section
Grip levels of the road in different weather conditions
Not that it isn't an interesting idea, but I've seen quite a few people banging on about it without thinking about the real world practicalities of it. While none of the problems are insurmountable, they do pose a serious barrier to entry. Once those costs have been overcome though, the idea of utilising vast surfaces for a secondary function such as this, is a smart one.

I watched 10 seconds of the video and stopped as it's too irritating.
Ridiculous idea.
Hover boards have more chance of being developed.
why is it ridiculous - could start small in shop car parks etc. although yes they'd have to be thief proof.Ridiculous idea.

But mainly solar panels are really expensive!

Well, mostly because there's plenty of fields to stick them in. (Less than 3% of the uk is built on)

but their point in the vid is they will pay for themselves ( if the takeup was large enough ) in that they would provide elec and why ruin the countryside when you can just replace roads with something useful? But mainly solar panels are really expensive!
would be interested to see how grippy they were though

Have you seen how much chaos they cause and time spent when doing something relatively straightforward like relaying a new surface? would be interested to see how grippy they were though

There is more than adequate brownfield land, factory rooves, shed rooves, house rooves that can had solar installed without any need to cover up good land with solar parks. But mainly solar panels are really expensive!
That said solar is expensive as you say, it also has the worst carbon footprint relative to it's generating capacity of ANY renewable technology. Quite why people are so obsessed with solar is beyond me. We live on a very wet, very windy island. It's not exactly known for it's long endless sunny days is it.

As its dumb idea.Roads have to be brick sthouse strong
Solar panels aren't
I can easily see the argument for roofs
We are considering HUGE solar panels on the roof of our extension as we can use soar panels instead of slates

I stopped reading after that.
It's not even a typo.
