For those talking about separating £2 coins, it isn't that complicated.
I worked in a metalwork shop around the time they were introduced, and heard that they could be separated easily with a hammer. I think this was about 1998.
I told this to a mate when he said "I've got a 2 pound coin!" We put it in a vice, hit the middle bit with the ball of a hammer and it popped out. He looked a bit concerned, but it just bashed straight back in as good as new on the bench.
I wouldn't waste my time with torches or freezers. It's a press fit, not bonded in any way.
Disclaimer - the design may have changed since then, I don't need to be flooded with invoices for £2...
