Mars through binos..?

Now there is a good view of Mars right now and I can peep through my Velux window leaning my 15x70 SkyMaster binos against the frame.

I am pretty sure I can make Mars out as a circle and within the circle right now I think I can make out a much smaller black spot.

So.. am I really seeing one of the moons or is it just my eyes playing tricks?

I thought ah! I'll have a look with my telescope then realised it is at work. Opportunity missed on what is a very clear night :/

Actually I'm guessing it can't have been a moon I saw, the moons of Mars are pretty small in comparison

Mars' moons are tiny - so highly unlikely you are seeing them through your bins.

Phobos is 11km mean diameter, Deimos is 6km. It does seem rather unlikely

The Skymasters are good starter binos, but they are obviously not that good

So I've seen Mars, Saturn and Jupiter (+moons) .. just need to see Venus and Mercury - but it looks like I need to get up early for those..

There's a sort of triangular shaped surface feature which might have been the dark spot. Saw the ice cap myself once
