Just sniffing around the Moons atmosphere but looking at the science packages.

Using a laser device to increase the data rate for transmissions.

Quite an interesting paper on its successor too - supposed to be geosynched by 2016, they're aiming for 10Gb/s downlink. Pretty amazing rates that would be fantastic for weather/instrument satellites.

I'm still impressed by 625 line.

And a good system it is. I still have a CRT telly. No flat screens yet, sort of if it ain't bust, don't fix it. 625 also an early adopter of compression in a round about way.

When there were analogue and digital transmissions side by side, I watched a terrestrial SD version of Blue Planet a then flicked to the analogue tx and the PAL was streets ahead. No idea on a comparison with HD though I suspect the it surpasses 625....

When it blows I will buy one.

I always think how much better the Apollo moonwalk pictures would have been if NASA had been using the PAL 625 line system back in 1969-72.

So we have the tehcnology to transmit nice video of man on the moon.

Now we just need the technology to get him there.

Welcome to 1961...

Aye, but bandwidth is king on any transmission. The Westinghouse camera was a little gem unless you pointed it at something bright....

edit, opps, composed, not posted, think it is obvious what the reply is for.

We have the technology. We just aren't using it.

I am sure it has been said we are better equiped to send a man to mars today, than we were to send a man to the moon in 1969.

We just need a cold war to start the race

welcome to china.....

Also been mentioned on here but one of the Saturn V missions they tried to get in place was a trip to Venus.

Not sure about equipped for Mars? There is still the long term and radiation. The Moon was driven by politics and it obviously worked and it was planned pre Kennedy pep talk and it was close though I fancy the way it is going, China will go for it and we won't see it coming (or going till its too late).

4k is the current "high" definition digital cinema. it has a horizontal resolution of 4096 pixels. A lot cinemas use it now

ultra HD is the next step in HD TV, it is 3840 pixels horizonly about twice the current HD picture, it is still a few years away from common use
