Was on the sand dunes earlier watching the airshow at Blackpool, as we left I found this in the sand;









Meteorite or crusty piece of poo?

Get the same on the beaches around here. Port Talbot Steel works is a dead give away as the source....

We called this sort of stuff "clinker", which may or may not be the right name for it, but, I believe it's the result of smelting rocks (and coal) for ore. The resulting rocks are useful for cheap surfacing and other building material etc. We used to use it in the mini sewage treatment plant at the big property I worked at as bacteria used to treat the sewage made its home in all the holes.

Used as ballast as well on railway lines. not sure it is today but an old coal line that went to the docks from the valleys near where I used to live had a lot of this stuff. Tracks were long gone.
