This is freaky stuff. What the hell is actually going on with the way the Universe works?? If something isn't being observed, then does it actually exist in the state as we know it? Or something completely different? Wow!

You have just discoverd Quantum Theory!
And it is spooky, even Einstein said so!
There are lots of books for non-scientists about Quantum Theory. I'll recommend this one:

Or, Jim Al-Khalili is an excellent physicist and presenter, but Quantum has been going for some time, and people have been giving lectures on it for almost longer. Richard Feynman was a famous nuclear physicist and Nobel Prize winner, who was even more famous as an entertaining speaker (as well as bongo drumming, LSD taking and womanising). You can watch the "Double Slit" lecture from his famous series of public lectures in 1964, here:
