Plastics safe for alkaline treated water
Discussion
Hi everyone,
I have been looking at camping water carriers to hold water treated with TC (at approx 3ml/litre of water):
http://www.heritagesteamsupplies.co.uk/Z-Heritage-...
but I have been informed by someone that knows about using these sorts of treatment that HDPE containers melt in such conditions. Can anyone tell me which plastics are safe? I know to avoid polyesters because alkaline solutions dissolve ester plastics, but was surprised that HDPE, being an alkane chain plastic, is also susceptible.
Thanks,
Matt
