How many 'moons' does the Earth have these days ?
Natural - two(ish). The Moon and Cruithne (pronounced Creena).
Technically Cruithne is not a "satellite" of earth as it does not actually orbit the earth. However, it is an asteroid which orbits the sun in a "locked" position - the "locking" being produced by the gravitaional interaction of the sun and the earth.
1 or 5 depending on your definition, apparently, after a quick google.
The Earth has either 1 or 5 moons. Since the discovery of 3753 Cruithne in 1997, three more 'moons' have been discovered: 2000 PH5, 2000 WN10 and 2002 AA29. If Cruithne is classed as a moon, then so must the others. Otherwise, Earth only has one moon. (Forfeit: Two)

I thought part of the definition of a moon is that it orbits a body that is orbiting the sun, the Earth Moon is a system in its own right and the barycenter is inside the Earths crust? Cruithne has an odd orbit around the sun but not one around the Earth, I think the QI episode took pedantry to the nth level to get Alan. That said I think there is no internationally agreed definition of a moon? (apart from the ones from football coaches).
The simulation you can find on line are interesting for Cruithne though.

Have twenty five minutes of someone claiming the Moon is a hologram because it's visible during the day :-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aZyTH_ukHU
And the reason it's a hologram is that it has been destroyed by nuclear explosions :-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0bIjh9yac8&lis...
He also thinks the skies above Toronto are full of "Hexahedron clusters and free flying aliens", rather than, ooh, an extremely out of focus CN Tower.

And I think I don't get out enough...

You will like the hollow earth theory then. Apparently NASA (usually) are hiding the fact that there is a huge hole in the arctic (or the other side) leading to the hollow earth.
I love all these nutters, i look at them and wish i could have that much belief in something without it needing to make sense.
Then i point and laugh at them.
Whenever you come across a crackpot that tries to tell you the Apollo missions were faked, just remind them that the artefacts have been observed by countless amateur astronomers. This is if they are a member of your family or someone you care about, otherwise just ignore them and make a note never to speak to them again.

I hadn't come across the moon in not real idea though, I thought even flat Earthists had trouble with that idea! I quite like meeting people with crazy ideas, extremely open minds etc. but when they are just illogical and clearly paranoid I go off them rather quickly.

I don't think any amateurs have seen Apollo artefacts on the lunar surface. No earth based telescopes (even the largest in the world) are capable of resolving features that small from a distance of 250,000 miles. However, the Apollo sites have now been successfully imaged by the orbiting LRO satellite which is currently surveying the moon photographically.
Slightly OT but whilst researching Geophone Rock I found this lot buried in the NASA site:
www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/a17/a17j.html
Apollo 17 leaving the moon: www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/a17/a17.launch.html
etc.

Stuck this up on the TV thread on the moon, it has been around for while. The NASA history site and others are full of gems as well.www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/a17/a17j.html

Finally, a bit clunky but it works

whilst talking about the moon not being real the crazy internet man said:
To make their hoax more plausible to early, superstitious societies, they arranged for these cycles to coincide with the months of the year.
I have also just spent an amusing hour or two on this
http://www.thelivingmoon.com/43ancients/02files/Mo...
and then i found this,
http://www.thelivingmoon.com/41pegasus/02files/Pro...
either brilliant satire or deeply disturbed rantings.
I find that when faced with someone who says "i believe the Moon doesn't exisit" or "The moon landings never happened" i find the best course of action is to immediately punch them in the face as hard as possible.
When the get back up off the floor and start complaining, simply say "sorry, but i believe that didn't happen"......... Works quite well ;-)
