With so much press and everyone talking about it, I have (naturally) become quite worried about the End of the World happening on the 21st od December 2012.
I just wanted to ask the question; Will the end of the world happen on the 21st of December 2012???
This place seemed to be the right place to post the question

This whole thing is built on a misundertsanding of the Mayan Calendar. 21-12-12 marks the end of the current "bactun" or period lasting just over 5000 years.I just wanted to ask the question; Will the end of the world happen on the 21st of December 2012???

Nothing in Mayan mythology states that this is the end of the world, just the end of that period of the calendar, just like 1999 being the end of a millenium and 2000 being the start of a new one.
So yeah, back away from the tin foil nonsense which you've been duped into worrying about. Hopefully you've not handed over any of your hard earned cash to the industry which has sprung up around this BS.

2000 being the end of a millennium and 2001 being the start of a new one (based on an arbitrary numbering system which starts at 1 and may or may not relate to the actual date of a birth of a religious figure who may or may not have existed)The things is, what exactly are you going to do if it does end of the 21st?
Not a lot of point worrying about it is there!
This is probably the same reason the Large Haldron Collider got through it's risk assessment, because if it had actually created a huge gravitational anomaly, generated a black hole that had sucked in and destroyed the entire known universe, who exactly would be around to sue the owners??

And did you miss all the previous ends of the world predictions? In my lifetime there have been at least 20.
I seem to recall 1993 was going to be a fairly disastrous year.It all gets a bit tedious.

Oh come on!1) Why should it?
2) How would the Mayans know anyway?
3) If they were that clever they'd have invented steam engines, guns, aeroplanes etc.
Sad that so many people get caught up in such hokum, and that the media hypes it up. As educational standards decline and voodoo takes over, I do wonder if the next Dark Ages is not far away.

The London Fire Brigade has advised homeowners to make sure that they have smoke detectors fitted as then they will know about the End of the World moments before those that have not had them fitted.
This can't be true?! So nobody thinks that it will happen? The media has hyped it up alot and everyone is talking about it...
