Finding A Star
Discussion
My sister died last Christmas and earlier this year a friend bought a star for my brother-in-law named after her.
He is interested in knowing where this star is so I thought I would ask on here.
Does anyone know of any websites where you can enter the co ordinates and it tells you where your star is?
Thanks.
I know that these named stars are a bit of nonsense but it would mean a lot to him to know where this star is.

Many astronomers are very angry about this type of carry on, to be honest. You might as well say, "You see that tree over there, if you give me £XXX you can buy it from me and have it named after yourself".
No you can't - and you can't do it with stars or other objects in space either.

You only bought a crater?
You should have gone the whole hog and bought a full fat "Impact Basin". I own the Mare Imbrium I'll have you know.

More for a supernova - refund for a black hole.
Good luck trying to get your money back after putting it in a black hole.longshot said:
Thankyou Don.
The coordinates are...
Right Ascension - 14h 50m 17.2s
Declination - +6° 37' 43.6"
That is a barren part of Virgo. I cannot see any stars there. I am just about to go out for the afternoon so I will have another look this evening. The coordinates are...
Right Ascension - 14h 50m 17.2s
Declination - +6° 37' 43.6"
The only thing that I can say is that it must be bloody dim.
Don
