science funding in the uk is on a downhill trajectory, germany has invested 20 % more since 2010... many other countries too. gotta maintain that edge. hopefully this will help make the case even stronger.

It's a funny thing though - we never have really put a great deal into research funding, but it hasn't hurt our results. I wonder if the mechanism for awarding research grants when the money is more available lends itself to safer or less exciting research?this is why we need to invest in science - in the uk we are amongst the best in the world.
