Shooting stars (meteors) are normally very quick and last a split second.

Maybe you saw the ISS?

Awesome!

I saw one sitting out on the terrace while in Spain with my girlfriend a few weeks ago. Pointed it out just in time for her to get a glimpse, and it was a nice touch on our holiday.

This sounds like something really quite special, though. Shame nobody will ever manage to be quick enough to record one!

Yep, saw it here about 20 minutes ago, looked like it was in about 5 pieces, going very fast across the sky. Some kind of meteor?

The whole thing, what ever it was seemed to be breaking up, massive amounts of flame and sparks trailing out behind it. Thought it had completely broken up but maybe just past out of sight line.
Never seen anything like it

Whatever that was, it was amazing. I was stood in the back garden, string at stars, as I am a nerd! I saw it through the trees at first as a bright light, it was travelling east to west, roughly. It started out as bright as say, the ISS, got brighter and brighter and slowly broke up. Imagine the colour of burning magnesium in school! With orange bits breaking off. Took around 20 seconds to cross the sky. Had to do a full 180 degree turn to follow it. I doubt I will ever see anything like that again.
