I saw these yesterday, very nice. One of them confuses me though.

The Milky Way photo over the crater lake says it was taken at 24mm, yet that Milky Way is not a 24mm field of view - more like 14mm. I don't know of any 14mm f/1.4 Nikkor. I have asked the author on his Flickr page but haven't had a response.

Anyone else think it's not actually a 24mm fov? It's not important, but details bug me smile

Most of us wouldn't notice such a detail.

Over the Chrismas break last year, I went to Greenwich to see the 2011 winners. It's well worth a visit to see them in a larger format.

I only do because I often take Milky Way shots at 16mm and they're not that wide smile

Are you on full frame though? Maybe the photo in the article is a FF camera, if you're on a crop then you'll have a field of view half as big again.

I'm using the exact same camera.

15mm Canon 5DIII, full frame

16mm D700, uncropped (mine)

24mm D700

I imagine they just published the wrong camera information smile

Was it a single frame? Could be a stitch - especially if it was with the 24tse.

It (The Telegraph) didn't go any further than "D700, 24mm, 15 seconds f/1.4" so I've no idea, could well be stitched.

Am planning a trip to the Royal Observatory on Saturday coming to take a look at the exhibition.

Anybody been? Is it worth the trip? Does seeing prints add anything to peering at my lappy monitor?

Just got back from somewhere where I could see the Milky Way. First time in years. Botched the images, wrong stop etc etc but what the hell. The Mark I still worked.
