Lets just pray that it is not the microchip frying type!
This is how it starts! 1st all the electric goes down, then the zombies appear.
Start nailing crooked planks of wood against all the windows. Stock up on water, bread, cheese and Strongbow. Then don't forget your old jam jars to pee into.
Well so far tv and radio ok, but my wireless cctv cam is snowed out.

Chance of seeing the Northern Lights at lower altitudes apparently...
What sort of time is best to catch these; dusk or later on in the night?
They usually recommend local midnight but its more a case of if a storm is happening at your midnight you have the best chance of seeing something rather than there is a better chance of a storm at midnight if you see what i mean. What sort of time is best to catch these; dusk or later on in the night?
bottom line, is it needs to be dark, cloud free and away from light pollution at the same time as a storm, this one is happening now so not much use here at 2pm. keep any eye on the planetary K index halfway down the left column on http://www.spaceweather.com/ to see if the storm continues tonight. A value of 5 you may see something low in the northern sky in Scotland, it would need to be closer to 8 or 9 for the south, although dont rely on the website data!!!
