Polymerisation
Discussion
Hia,
My lecturer was on about Polymerisation today and i dont fully understand the Addition and Condensation methods. I was wondering if any of you out there would know of a simple way to explain them. I went onto wikipedia and was just overwhelmed with information im sure is years advanced on what im learning
Cheers

Been a couple of years since i did this but Condensation is when water is eliminated and the two molecules are bonded together i.e there is one with an OH and one with an H on the end of its molecules. These then add together and the OH and H are kicked off to form H2O leaving the two original molecules to link together. Addition involves breaking a double bond on the molecule to free up the molecule to form a chain, it usually involves a free radical i think.
