I'm aware of the standard STI as a JDM import. They are getting a bit old but have a combination of size, speed, ground clearance etc that would be useful to me.
But I'm a bit old for the bright colours, lairy wheels and stickers so are there any slightly more restrained versions out there that keep the good bits. More a lux model than a sport model.
Other opitons are a refit; leather seats, respray, no tints etc but if I could find it without in the first place then al the better.
Are they all 2.5 engines and do they therefore run the sti risks these engines have?
Thanks

Come on, you should know better than that biggrin

OP, all Forester sti's are 2.5, they don't all come with gold wheels either smile

There is an S Edition Forester available and also a tS variant in mk4 models (2.5) and a tS available in mk5 body shape (2.0). These are JDM and ADM cars only I believe.

Very rare JDM car, only made for a very short period of time...and still pretty agricultural.

Does it have to be sti or would a normal Forester XT with the 2l turbo do as these were made up until 2018.

The actual model isn't critical; I chose the sti as that's the quickest!
We are going to need a bit more ground clearance and 4wd as well as the need to do 2-3 hr motorway journeys comfortably.
I'd go for a L322 RR but they are a bit big. A freelander 2 is a bit slow and I'm not really keen on the audi rs models.
We've had impreza wagons before but need a bit more space.
Hence a Forester. It would end up being my wife's daily and she'll complain if it's much slower than her current car. Problem is that's a c55 estate!

They do a Cross Sport model in the same shape as the STi. This came with the EJ20 engine (so 2L) and 220bhp as standard. I looked briefly at them as a run around for the wife, but most are auto and she wanted a manual (don’t ask)!

A standard Forester XT comes with the 2.0 litre up to about 2005, from then its the 2.5 till the SG9 (square model) ended, sits at farmer height...2.5 XT UK models are a mild sleeper, Subaru never badged them up as sporty versions, the only way you know its a blown version is the bonnet intake and (assuming its still on original exhaust) the pipe is 2.5" bore where the NA model is 2".

You can get the Forester Cross Sport which is a rather nice 2.0 litre JDM.

The Forster sg9 sti was four colours , white blue grey or a silver , you get a mixture of subtle or not so , plus if driven carefully you get 36 mpg and a 60mph time under 5 seconds plus virtually no lag , i would suggest driving one first , a fresh jdm import is normally rust free , i have three of them as I’m greedy but of all the scoobies I have had they are the best all rounder , yes they have the 2.5 but it’s the 255 not the sti 257 so failure is less common , I’ve never had a piston issue , but nice to have a sleeper that goes like a stab rat with no lag

Have you considered a Cayenne V8? It's a much nicer place to be than an old Subaru hehe Smaller than a FFRR, faster than a Freelander, more powerful than a C55 Estate....4WD, low range, diff locks, air suspension etc.

I hadn't. First thoughts were they don't seem "small" but I haven't looked that closely. I believe the 4.5 engines have a few issues but not sure about the 4.8s. I'll investigate. Thanks

Yea the later 951 facelift with the 4.8 is the one we have. I still have an Impreza also.

Just picked up a JDM XT with the EJ205HP engine in (2 litre). Dunno what the power is but it feels in the 230/240 region.

I had an old 4.0 XJ Cherokee that I used for 4x4 duties and my wife had a Yaris SR 1.8 - neither car really did any miles but both had their occasional uses so this was an attempt to combine them.

It's got that Subaru sturdy-but-comfy-do-anything feel about it.

Got a few bits I still need to get done on it but, so far, I've used it more in the first month than either of the old cars got used in a year.
