Hi all, new to Subaru.

Wanted Outback or Forester for quite a while now, finally got hold of this outback (replacing a broken Volvo v70).

Just did a motorway stint in it and there is a feint, intermittent high pitch whining noise, seems to be only at motorway speeds and very quiet - can only hear it if the radio is completely off.

diagnosis:

only audible on motorway/at motorway speeds

I tried switching to neutral at high speed and i think it stopped but not sure

I couldn't work out the circumstances that made it appear as mostly it wasn't there (accelerating/decelarating/cruise/uphill/downhill/etc.)

its a low mileage car (48K ish).

Any ideas welcome

Thanks

Ben

Has you checked all fluid levels?

Including gearbox and front diff which have their own dipsticks.

They are quite prone to wheel bearing issues - I’ve just had both rears done on my 2005 3.0 auto

Thanks very much for the reply, sorry for late reply - I gave up checking!

I think I have checked the gearbox dipstick but haven't looked for the front diff. will check over tonight
