EJ257 STI Engine Failure
Discussion
Food for thought!
Impreza STI hatchback on 70k miles, with full Subaru dealership history goes in for a routine engine oil and oil filter change. Before hand the car had been running perfectly as it should; within 10 miles of driving after picking the car up a knocking sound develops in the engine which has now been revealed as cylinder 3 big end bearing failure!
In everyone's own opinion; where does the blame lie? Is somebody at fault for this?
Cheers!

Full MD SH doesn't mean the car has been treated with any mechanical sympathy, ie allowed to warm up before hard driving and after driving tickover sufficiently to cool the turbo enough.
Also no guarantee the engine oil has been kept at sufficient level during those miles.
Course you might have had it from new and the above have been accounted for.

you can speak to the dealer and see what they say , what says the pick up pipe has not failed , a great engine with flaws , a very good engine after being forged , time to speak to a good engine re builder , after your chat with the dealer who did the service , i expect it’s just become an issue over time distance covered and use , one of those things
Even if you somehow pinned it on the dealer, they'll just rebuild it using standard bits. Total waste of time and money. Take it to your local reputable EJ builder who will have all the parts on the shelf and will hand it back bombproof and remapped. You'll have a car you'll want to keep forever.
