First problem in 9 years of ownership

No worries and thank you. If I had used my brain I could have saved you some headache, I had the same on my 2003 WRX Wagon about 18 months ago, sounded like I had a supercharger. I thought it was power steering or aircon related and it turned out to be the pulley, cheap and easy fix!

I’ve still been driving it, just with the air con off. Might see if I can manage without until it goes in for fixing having read the other commentjust remove the ac belt , the ac off makes no difference as the belt is still rotating , it can be a slight fiddle to remove but it’s fairly straight forward , it’s not that difficult to change the pulley , i had a noisy pulley heard about how it can go wrong and changed that and the other two a bit of preventative maintenance , top rubber power steering pipe goes hard and causes air to get into the pump so swapped them out too
