Got an intermittent issue which feels like the front diff is locked on full steering lock (I.e. reversing into a tight space feels like the outer front wheel is skipping) the diffs have always made low speed manouvering an awkward affair needing high revs to avoid stalls. Any ideas if this is as easy as oil change or should I anticipate bigger problems?

Cheers

Sounds like typical symptom of centre diff failure. Manual or auto?

oil change first then see how you go , any other noises in normal driving , and you say it’s not doing it all the time , so if it’s generally fine as above oil and probably leave it at that as probably not worth the cost to repair if it’s minor , sounds like a manual to me ?

Every 4x4 I've had has had a percivable element of this when reversing full lock - especially if a front wheel hits a loose surface and you get a sligh jump from unbinding.

Yes, you get this if you have issues with the centre diff. You can also feel a 'sawing' drag on the steering if you've got a CV binding up a bit.

Probably not the case with yours if it's worse when hot, but I was actually worried mine developed a fault and it turned out to be the tyres. They were well worn, had gone a little hard and it was winter - which added up to a skipping. I don't think the Legacy runs a neutral ackerman.
