Impulse Purchase - GB270!
Discussion
A few years ago I bought a GB270 wagon and loved it. It was a slightly ropey version and needed new shocks, clutch, brakes to get it where I wanted it, but unfortunately a couple of weeks after completing the work I got asked by my work to move to the USA and so sold it having not reaped the benefits of the money I'd put into the car. Fast forward nearly 3 years and I'm now planning on returning to the UK (Hopefully in May/June).
I was loosely starting to look at Legacy / Forester STIs as I couldn't see any decent looking Wagons for sale, and in any event I'm not coming home for 4/5 months. Then this morning my dad emailed me about a fantastic looking car up in Scotland. GB270 wagon on 39,000 miles with the right seats etc and looking stunning.
I called the dealer, seemed like a great guy, knowledgeable and passionate. A couple hours later I've put a deposit down pending the balance being transferred from the US! The chap's going to hold the car in his showroom for me until I return home and give it a thorough going over from a service perspective but the belts were done 1000 miles ago and it already has MOT until December. He'll give it a full 12 months MOT from when I pick it up and is going to give it a full underseal etc as well.
It looks in amazing condition and I can't wait, although part of me is slightly bemused that I just bought a car sight-unseen from across the water but hey-ho...what's the worst that can happen?!
In terms of the "what's the worse that can happen" I now need to get 3rdPF&T insurance whilst it sits in his showroom. Is there anything else I need to consider around that?

Nice! Make sure to get pics of the underside before undersealing and suspension turrets from inside the arch, if you haven’t already. These cars are starting to rust now particularly if used in winter and/or kept near the coast.
I was thinking of getting mine undersealed, especially after the snow in the south east. I can imagine Scotland being a nightmare! I had Click Mechanic (premium version) look over the car with specific mention of rust, and seemed OK for age. AA give pictures which I was expecting from click mechanic but didn't happen.
My car has spent its life in Midlands and then last 6 years in Poole, so hopefully not too much hammering.
On mine I have notice a slight bit of rust on one of wheel arches where the plastic trim meets the arch.
I gave the car a clean yesterday, but I'm not mechanical, so don't really know how to raise the car to wash the underneath. Just worried about all that salt sitting there.
I know this is a bit of open ended question, but what are the costs for typical repair bills for rust?
The pre purchase inspection was a great piece of mind for me, but I know peeps here will know more than the average mechanic!
Nice motor mate! I'm keeping an eye out for similar myself (didn't see this one!). I've got a 2006 PPP wagon in same colour, but the body is not great and various bits of rust becoming an issue (in usual aforementioned places, and sills). I'd love to sell this on now and pick up a super tidy GB270 to keep long term.
