Help with a 60 reg diesel Impreza please!

Hi all, would appreciate some help. I’ve got an elderly neighbour with a 60 reg Impreza diesel which has sat since March as they were shielding and won’t start.
They now need the car on the road for winter. I’m a vw / Audi person not familiar with Subaru’s.
I put a smart charger on the car this morning and after 6 hours it’s giving very few volts. In maintenance mode on the charger absolutely nothing was coming on in the car when the key was turned which I thought was strange as technically it’s getting 12v!?
I decided not to jump it in case it causes any issues with the electronics and I’ll grab a battery from euro car parts tomorrow.
It had a pretty crap one on it so I’ll grab a Bosch s4 068 70ah unless anyone suggests anything better.

Stick the new battery on, if it starts and isn't in limp mode, drive down the motorway for as long as it takes the EML to turn off, DPF should then be clear.
If the cars in limp mode when the car starts, I'm afraid its off to a dealer to try a regeneration, if that fails a new DPF will be needed.

Some cheaper chargers can't kick start a very dead battery
I'd say a battery from March on a 60 reg motor is about as dead as a dodo.
New battery first and then scan the car for faults if you can and see what it thinks is wrong.
Dpf may be clogged but may be faulty pressure sensors etc. Usually if limp mode from DPF without other faults it will need a forced regen
I'd suggest buying a little Petrol motor instead of a diesel if they're not using it often for long journeys
