09 Impreza wrx hatchback

How’s it going again folks. Ended up buying a wrx hatchback. Wanted a blob eye but due to coronavirus restrictions I couldn’t get over to look at any in mainland U.K. so a real clean example popped up very local to me, I thought about it for a day or two and then went and looked at her. Glad I did now. Really love the wee car. It’s a 09 wrx with only 70k full service history but got the engine rebuilt around 5k miles ago. So hopefully don’t have to worry about the 2.5 going pop!

Anyway I’ve been trying to find some info on these hatchbacks and can’t find much atall. Search’s on google ain’t really bringing anything up.

Want to hear opinions on the best full exhaust for these? I’ve ordered a cosworth panel filter. And I’ve also susses out an sti spoiler for it as well. Won’t be going overboard just want a wee bit more power.

Will probably just go for the filter, full exhaust and then get it mapped. Can these ecu be mapped the way they are or do I have to buy a Ecutek etc? What sort of power can I expect from doing a this?

Hayward and scott do very good systems plus they can post them out , on pre hatch there was a mid section silencer deleting that makes a nice slightly say 30 per cent louder noise more burble even on a 2.5 and better exhaust flow , map wise i can’t see why your original ecu can not be mapped , power wise the limit on a wrx is normally strength of the gearbox , an easy 30 to 40 bhp should be do able ? it’s the torque that makes the big difference

Must look into the Hayward and Scott exhausts. Spotted their back box’s on Scoobyworld but not sure if they sell there full systems. Don’t want anything too loud as have a 1 year old.

Power wise I’m pretty happy as is. But I think if I got an exhaust and the cosworth panel filter then tuned and rolling roaded I’d be more than happy with the performance then.

They should be able to do a cat back , if there is a silencer in the mid section then keep it there it will be about 30 per cent quieter for it , based on the newer style single exit older style cars

I had the centre section deleted and smaller back boxes fitted on my 2.5. Sounds much nicer and not too loud. Doesn’t drone either. I

These post 2007 hatches seem remarkably cheap, are they that unloved? Big tax and a significant departure from what went before I suppose, but for 4K you get a fair few to choose from. Seems pretty good value really!

They are a good car. I really like mine. I had planned to buy a blob eye and was looking for one for nearly two months, unfortunately they where all in mainland U.K. and with the whole covid-19 thing I couldn’t get over to see one! Then a person local to me offered me this 09 wrx. At first I was like naaa don’t like them. Then a few hours passed and I decided to go view it (was only 6 miles away) after getting a drive in it I really liked it. Plus it was under budget so it meant I could do a few mods straight away lol.

There a very good handling car, again I can’t compare it to any other Impreza as this is my first one. But I can compare it to the likes off say a civic type r. The grip on the Impreza, even in wet seems unbelievable to anything I’ve owned before. Any speed into any corner and it doesn’t even blink an eye. Even got the back end out slightly going around a roundabout a bit to spirited lol.

I’ve ordered a Hayward and Scott twin backbox. A local exhaust company from me makes full stainless steel lines so they are going to make me an exhaust with a fake/dummy cat so car still passes mot, and fit the Hayward and Scott Twin backbox on for me. Fingers crossed it sounds good but not too loud lol

Late arrival to this thread but my tiny bit of input.....

I came to my 330s after a PPP Blob and a Classic, liked the shape and of course, the way it went!



Mine had been rebuilt prior to my purchase but not long after, it blew again with head gasket failure and associated damage. Fortunately covered by warranty and the second (forged this time) rebuild was done properly down in Devon but a lot of time lost with it and frankly, when I got it back, I'd lost the love!

Great drivers car, rubbish for anyone else in there and high floor in the boot made that a bit limited for the rubbish I seem to cart about. I always thought it could sound better so completely get anyone changing the exhaust and I had the standard 'fruity' four pipe jobbie on. I'm not a fan of the 'look at me' mods that some folk have done with them and liked the stealth factor in standard form, most folk don't know what these are.
