Bugeye Impreza WRX
Discussion
Hello
I have the option to bag a low mileage (ie.65k) 2001 Impreza WRX. Its the 2ltr, not the 2.5.
I am not sure what the going rate for these are, anyone any idea? Private sale. I know the bugeye ones were not popular when new, but does that make them sought after now? Perhaps the 2.5 is the one everyone wants?
Is there anything to look out on them?
cheers

Check for rust, also check if it has the updated alloy lower arms at the front. Look under the front to check the front Subframe condition, if it still has the plastic cover underneath then that's a good indication the owner took care of it.
2.5's came out in 2007 on the Hawkeye Impreza. I've had a 2.5 WRX, they have tons of torque but I prefer the 2.0. the 2.5's were also not without their problems (have a look on Scoobynet) although the WRX's didn't seem to be badly affected until they were mapped for more power.
65k on a bug is low, the styling is a bit marmite but I like them. If it is in fine fettle then it has a good 100k left in it as long as it's cared for.
A 2001 car should have had at least 3 cambelt replacements (on vehicle age , every 5 years or every 50k) and a water pump changed (use genuine Subaru for the replacement, not pattern), plus 3 fluid changes in the diff ,gearbox etc (again every 5 years). Check the history of the car, always a good starting point.
I'm not really clued up on WRX prices, but a decent clean bugeye with a good history might (at a guess) command around the £3.5k mark, but don't quote me on that. There are some real pigs out there going for around £2k out there.
