Show me your Impreza wagon
Discussion
Mainly because I'm bored at work, but also, I've had an itch for one that won't go away. I've been to see and drive a few and they were all pretty rough despite being buffed up for good looking eBay adverts.
I've pretty much given up on finding a nice one but that article on the front page has got me looking again. And it doesn't hurt to check out other people's cars and pick their brains. So what have you got and how well does it go?
Ideally, I'd like a blobeye PPP (or equivalent power) in blue or silver with no rust. I can't do bodywork and I want something clean enough to justify keeping for a few years. I just like the idea of an oldschool mechanical rally car that I can fit my bike in. I commute on foot every day so it'll live in a garage and come out on weekends.

Ever thought about a Legacy or Fozzy? Basically similar spec to Impreza... but with a bit more space and less attention from old bill and def enough space for bike!

I bought a Leggy back in June and love it! Imported... but thats why it was so clean... The Japanese generally look after their cars!

Forester's do look cool but they're always at least double the price of an equivalent Blobeye. We're buying a nice sensible daily in the new year so want to keep the price of my toy down a bit.
Legacy's, yeah they look mint. Generally much harder to find a nice clean manual car and again, more expensive than a more widely available Blob.
I'd definitely consider a Legacy if one popped up but only if I'd totally exhausted the search for a tidy WRX.

Good luck finding a clean one. I looked for over a year and ended up buying one that I'd driven past regularly for 6 years! Just knocked on the door as I hadn't seen it move in a while and it was indeed for sale. Needed some mechanical work but I was fine with that. It's not my daily as I have better and newer cars for that but it is my favourite.
There's one popped up for sale in Sheffield and it's a 5 minute walk from my house. I went to see it this morning but it was buried at the back of their storage yard. They offered to get it out but I'm going to go back when it's not absolutely belting down with rain. I need to get on the floor and have a good look underneath it.
It's silver. It's an SL with heated seats and a sunroof and apparently a PPP. 90k on the clock. All 4 arches were solid, no visible rust anywhere. It didn't trigger any alarm bells while I was looking at it but it was trapped in between a bunch of pickup trucks so still needs a proper inspection. Any tips what to look for when I go back to drive it?
Also I found this... LINKY
That one looks mint and I'd love a blue one. Not an SL or PPP unfortunately, but as a bonus, it's got a towbar ready to accept my bike rack on day one! But there's absolutely no way I can get to Plymouth. Not before new year anyway.

+1I spent about the same time looking and also gave up.
No.1 son took mine on, let's me have a go periodically and it still puts a smile on my face. Mileage heading toward 120k now but still very sweet and the extra bit of PPP shove helps it hustle along.
He mentions selling it now and again and no doubt I'll end up buying it back when he does
P.S. Fitting a towbar to one of these is a doddle and not expensive either, PF Jones supplied a Witter one at very reasonable money and the electrics are properly old school.

Well that was an errr, entertaining read. What a nightmare.
Pretty sure I won't have that experience. I'm not looking for the cheapest example in the UK and I'd never buy one without seeing and driving it first.
Coincidentally, our current daily driver is a blue 100HP. It's the most fun I've had in years.

Sounds like I'm not the only one with a Scooby itch. Also looking in every corner of the web for a tidy WRX Wagon - does it really take a year to find one!?!
The number of people posting about high mileage ones gives me a fair bit of confidence that with decent TLC a good one, once found, will do me for a long while.

The problem is that they’ve all been used for what they were designed for in this country. Big mileage + usage in all weathers = poor condition. The number of people posting about high mileage ones gives me a fair bit of confidence that with decent TLC a good one, once found, will do me for a long while.
How much do you have to spend?

That white one is nice but a bit spendy. I was thinking 5 grand max. For more than at I'd just start looking at STI's. I just like the slightly odd 5 door hatch, 4x4, rally car style. There's nothing else like it. And I could fit my bike in the back!
I wish I could go see that blue one in Plymouth but there's no way I can get down there any time soon. Not willing to buy unseen.
This one is for sale, literally a 5 minute walk from my house- LINK
It's currently crammed in at the back of their storage yard so I've only had a brief look. Looks fine from the outside. Arches are solid etc. If it was blue I'd jump on it.

Love the look of the JDM import STI but it's miles out of my price range! The one in Plymouth also looks good, but a long journey. I'm also not ready to buy unseen...
There is a higher mileage (120k) one for sale in Bedford which would be much more convenient for me to get to. It's also a fair bit cheaper but I don't know how much of that would disappear keeping it going if there's a big difference in condition.
