Automatic gc8 wrx thoughts

A mate of a mate of a mate has offered me his 95 jap import wrx estate for what I consider a good price. Problem is it's an automatic. I've driven plenty of auto roo's in the past but never the wrx variant. The car is pretty clean and nearly stock as far as anyone can tell. If its wasnt in such nice shape I would passed but ivam seriously considering it. Given the rising prices of these cars it's looking less likely I will ever be able to afford a clean manual so I may have to settle for the auto. Just wondering if they drive like poo and completely ruin the car or if they are still enjoyable to own with the auto.

they are not as quick and a bit slow off the mark , can’t do a lot of mapping with them due to the strength of the auto box , the box on mine failed around 70k ? miles or so , i still enjoyed having one , i heard the auto gearboxes are more prone to failure don’t know how true that is
