In case anyone hasn’t seen last weeks SOTW.
I bought a 3.0 saloon. 05 reg.
it’s had a new exhaust fitted with the third cat removed.
Every thing seems fine apart from smelling a bit like running rich.
No soot.
I thought it was the missing cat but sm not really sure because I don’t think the third cat does much
Would anything in particular cause rich running?
Or at least the smell of??

MDMA .

It'll smell a bit more as the cats would have been absorbing the fumes. Check all the vacuum lines is a good start and take it from there.

start up rich or all the time running rich , if it’s start up that fairly normal , if not check for leaks as above , mpg any worse and did it start after exhaust mods ?

mag sensor thinking temp is wrong , engine temperature sensor , cam or crank sensor if it’s failing could be messing things up , clean maf first , did it start after doing the exhaust , o2 sensor still plugged in ?

there are 4 x O2 sensors on the car - 3 cats in total. Whats the milage? they are probably OEM parts so replacing with denso or equivalent should get it running as it should do again. You also need to re learn the idle.

Thanks for the info. Would failed lambda sensors show up on a OBD check?
I've read somewhere about the idle re learn so I can defo do that.
Car drives great so this would be nice to eradicate

what is the milage? i would bet they are original sensors so how about having a look to see if thats the case? if they are original i would take all 4 off and new post cat and pre cat sensors on. it would thank you
