Few pics of my fully forged daily project car. Just put the summer wheels back on after their winter referb and colour change. Final parts being fitted for 450bhp end of May, been a long journey but can't wait.

Cheers. They really are great cars these. Best Subaru I've owned so far.

Hello mate, how are you doing? Still not seen you around locally. lol.

Yes and No to missing the FSTI. Essentially yes I miss it, I spent so much money on that car the steering, suspension and general way it felt on the road and handled were sublime. It was a fantastically fun car to drive. I also miss the practicality of the boot space and the rarity of it.

However at the end of the end of the day it was still a 15 year old car and certain areas of it really felt like it was, like the old style Subaru basic interior etc. I'm really loving the new shape car as the inside is just a lovely place to be and drive daily. It feels really special when you drive it to be honest and I love the fact they are still a very rare car. It's less practical than the FSTI, but I think I'm more in love with this one now I've owned it for a little while to be honest.

Looks awesome. I'm in 2 minds whether to go for a 14/15 plate STI or JDM Blob, I recently had a look and a sit inside a 14 plate, I agree it's a really nice cabin and feels better put together. I understand the ringland / HG issue is now sorted with the 2.5's and they're reliable as long as you don't put extra power through them?.

BTW What winters were you using?

That's not exactly true really, Subaru have still not fixed the head gasket and ringland issues with the 2.5 engines, even on the late cars like mine. The pistons are still the same design and while they have changed the head gasket design slightly over the years it can still be an issue. That said, the potential for both of these failures can be reduced.

Generally speaking they say keep the boost on a standard un-forged 2.5 engine below 1.35 bar and you will be fine. However, I've had 2 cars suffer head gasket failure mapped below this peak level now so even that isn't true.

Also on the newer engines there seems to be an occasional oil starvation issue which can happen. My car suffered total engine seizure while ticking over which is why it now has a fully forged engine.

Sorry, I have no idea what winter tyres are on my winter wheels! I never looked that hard. lol

Your car looks fantastic.
If you don’t mind saying, what kind of cost is it to go from stock to fully forged on this generation of STI?

Hi and thanks.

Cost of a forged build is no different to earlier subaru models, but it will all depend what spec of final build you go for as it can vary massively. A standard basic forged piston, uprated head gasket and stud full rebuild will set you back £3.5k upwards from a good builder. Expect to pay £5k but again, it can go up massively from that too.

The engine in my car is quite well specified with JE forged pistons, Manley rods and everything else on the engine is RCM or Perrin and fully uprated throughout.

On top of the basic forged engine you need to add up all the little bits to get the most of a decent engine, like £2k bespoke turbo, RCM headers, Harvey up-pipe, full hand built 3" downpipe and exhaust, FMIC kit, Perrin FPR, ID1050 injectors, etc etc etc. Which alone have so far added another £10k on top of the engine build cost. It can really spiral out of control to be honest.

What exhaust are you running in the pics and did you fit the HT Auto kit yourself ? If so is it a pig of a job. Loving your dedication but i think personally a Litchfield modded GTR would have taken my money lol. Great Thread.

It's currently running a 3" to 2.5" decat downpipe with a full H&S de-resonated exhaust, so essentially just the 2 rear boxes. It's getting a full 3" hand built system from front to back fitted soon once I've heat wrapped the downpipe, along with RCM 3 bolt headers, harvey up-pipe etc to the new turbo.

I have 2 young kids, so my daily has to be practical. As much as I love the GTR (and would happily have one tomorrow) you can't get a family of 4 plus 2 kids bikes and a load of other rubbish into a GTR so the GTR would just sit unused while I drive something bigger and less fun. Having the Subaru means I get a fun car I can use every day.

Brown Pants you are a Man math magician like me. I've owned each variant of the impreza since the mid 90's. The only model i have not owned was the hatch as i fell out of love with that model and went to a series of TVR's ( another thread). Currently running a mildly modified 2015 STI. I have never found a better car to tick all the family boxes. Large boot, 4 wheel drive , room for grandchildren and goes like stink ! But you sir are taking things to another level !
I cannot justify the GTR also and my dream of The Maserati GTS soft top is slipping away with four grandchildren. keep posting please .

haha. I know your pain mate. Thankfully I also have a restored modified 1963 small window beetle in the garage as a weekend toy to let me smell fuel and oil, but even that doesn't get the attention or love it needs with 2 young kids these days. I haven't driven it for a year after the starter packed up and although it's a simple job to sort it's just fallen behind doing a few jobs on the STI so has remained untouched. It's all about time and priorities with kids around and I will never do car jobs over spending time with my monsters, so project these days just take forever. Hopefully the STI will get all the parts installed soon and I can at least get this to where I want it.

Then when I don't need a family car in some years time I'll get a Porsche GT3 RS (wife permitting). biggrin

I'm with you on the Noble and TVR too, both on my list. I nearly went down the AMG C63 route before buying yet another Subaru so that's an itch I'll need to scratch at some point.

I'll have a few desirable parts to sell at the end of my build. I have 2x decat downpipes one being a very good quality H&S unit and a full H&S exhaust that's currently fitted to the car (sounds great). I also have a genuine HT Auto's front bumper lip that is no longer needed as I purchased a different one from America form the car.
