Subaru Legacy 2.0i revved the nuts off almost literally
Discussion
Morning All,
I was driving home the other day and while overtaking on snow I revved the car up to nearly 6000rpm in 4th gear and thereafter on the way home when she was idling in traffic or at the McDonalds drive thru thereafter It sounded was almost going to cut out (but never did) and as the revs recovered under idling i felt a slight vibration. I was about to turn it into the local mechanic straight away but my wife took it skiing yesterday and it was 100% fine and today on the way to work it was again 100% fine. I know I should've paid more attention and changed gears while overtaking but was distracted by the road noise from the snow tyres and I certainly wont wittingly do it again.
However has anyone any idea what the noises at idling couldve been.?/ No warning lights or anything like that.

Unless there was a fundamental prevailing issue with the car then it should be 100% fine to go to the rev limited each and every day of its life - Make sure water and oil as fully up to temp first but then fine.
That said claiming 6k revs whilst overtaking in FOURtH Gear in a public forum might get BIB taking note as it’s in the region of 115-145mph car dependant.

was it flat out spinning on ice/snow then caught traction? might have damaged something
If he genuienly was doing that he shouldn’t be on the road that’s utterly insane and an accident waiting to happen - then again smashing past at max rpm in 4th gear 115-145mph isn’t exactly the safest either or smartest. Welshbeef said:

In anycase thanks to you all for the comments, much appreciated.
