My 09 Legacy is scabby as hell underneath - the rust is quite unbelievable for a 'modern' car.

I would like to provide some protection - what's the usual approach? Waxoyl is horrid, messy, stuff and I would like to use something else.

What is recommended - something easy to apply which goes semi hard and doesn't create a filthy mess?

I have a 2 post lift so will be doing it myself

Lucky you having a proper lift , i’ve always waxoyld , i have a 2004 fsti treated from day one , there are hammerite options like their spray on stone chip , but a drill with a rotating wire brush helps to get rid of all the crud but don’t forget the arches , but i’m still on the waxoyl side as it’s a good thick layer

OP, to combat the dreaded tin worm suggest a simple three stage approach [applying a waxoyl type covering won't stop rust]

1. jetwash all crud off underside, allow to dry
2. treat all areas with a couple of coats of Aquasteel rust inhibitor/converter/anti-rust paint [this is a serious product used extensively in heavy industry and works superbly on vehicle applications] http://aquasteel.co.uk/
3. finish with BiltHamber Dynax UB [Black] or Dynax UC [Clear] https://www.bilthamber.com/corrosion-protection-an...

Good luck...
