Noisy power steering - 09 Legacy

My 09 Legacy (very late Gen 4) has a noisy steering pump when cold.

I've noticed that the belt slips when on full lock and cold causing dreadful screeching noise, so presumably the belt is riding over the pump which tells me that the pump is offering high resistance on full lock.

What's the cause here anyone? I'm aware of the air ingress issue and have ordered a new O ring but could the pump be knackered?

..I may be barking up the wrong tree here.

Just checked the belt and it seems to have way to much slack. Apparently 5-7mm defelection mid belt under 22lbs of force is required, I have way more than that.

New belt on order.

New £10 Gates belt fitted (took me 10 mins) and now totally quiet.

How satisfying!!
