Legacy brake recall UK ??
Discussion
There is a recall for the rear brake pipes suffering surface corrosion, I've had them changed on my Legacy under warranty at the start of this year.
I would chase it up as mine was done under the recall when the pipe burst (2005 Legacy).
I think it only relates to a certain area on the brake pipe and the options are to replace or clean up and treat the corrosion if it isn't bad.

Just got the letter for my 2005 outback. Some interesting info mostly from the States about his issue:

215,000 of them!
You can have a look yourself without too much trouble - see page 3. A couple of alarming photos later on.
If the pipes/unions are not actually leaking it seems the solution is to spray it with some anti-rust stuff. Access seems to be a pain if replacement is needed.
Here`s a quote from one of the contributors:
" One of the brake lines rusted through just in front of the 4-way connector. I took it to my local my local Subaru garage today and they aknowledged that it was covered under the recall and needed replaced. However, due to the vehicle's design, it requires dropping the gas tank and disassembling much of the rear suspension. Most of the associated bushings in the suspension are dry-rotted (2005, 197k miles) and would not be able to be re-installed. Short story is Subaru will cover the brake line but not the parts and labor associated with accessing the brake line. The car is nickle & diming me to death and I don't know if it's worth continuing. This would be another several hundred dollars for the "free" repair. "
I don`t know if that is Subaru`s policy.
Mine don`t look too bad so I might be in for the spray with rustproofing `solution`.

Just had my recall letter through, as my Outback has nearly 150k on the clock it will be interesting to see what the results are. Just put new pads, disks and tyres all round last week so don’t need any extra costs as it’s our third car and just used as a tip/station car. Time wil tell...
That's exactly the type of joint that crusted up on my Impreza (further back, where the rear brake lines come out from the body) and needed replacing.
Fortuantely, my Legacy's only been here a year and there's not a hint of corrosion on it yet - I'll treat this one with some cold galv ahead of the problem!

Had mine in for the recall yesterday.
Bit of a non event to be honest, no issues & a spray of anti corrosion paint for luck.
Drank their coffee, had a look around the new Forester & awaited the expected bullst.
"Pads are a bit low sir, do you want to book it in?"
No
"Coolant is a bit low sir, shall we top it up? "
No
25 mins later and I was on the way home

Been in for the check - no leaks so OK. I can smell some sort of oily goo has been sprayed on - will have a peek later.
I don`t know how bad the corrosion would need to be for them to consider replacement - if not leaking then leave it alone seems to be the policy.
Hopefully many more miles left in it, don`t really fancy the newer models either on appearance or price.

Mine's booked in. Apparently it's for a section of brake pipe that runs alongside the fuel tank. As it sits behind a cover of some sort, it can corrode unseen by the usual service type inspections.
They whip the cover off, inspect, then either replace or spray with corrosion inhibitor.
Job done (ar for me at least, it will be).
