Forester STi Windscreen
Discussion
To cut a long story short:
I was following a gritter lorry the other day which fired out a huge chunk of grit and has resulted on a foot-long u-shaped crack along the bottom of my windscreen, with a 4-5" 'offshoot' emanating up from said crack at the point of impact from the gritter...
Needless to say it's a clear MOT failure; and given the weather currently and the fact its likely to get colder in the coming weeks, i'm being very frugal with windscreen heating/demisting as to not exacerbate things further.
The issue I have is that its a JDM imported 2004 FSTi - which has the wiper heating elements running along the bottom of the screen; and the advice I've been given by a fellow Subaru enthusiast is that European cars never featured these - and 'regular' windscreen replacement companies, Autoglass etc find it tricky/impossible to source the JDM-type screens.
The other issue I have is that my MOT is due mid-February, so I need a new screen ASAP!
And advice would be warmly welcomed!!

The above is not true - most UK FXT's and FXTen's came with heated front screens. There's no difference between JDM and UK screens, there all from the same Subaru parts bin. Call IMG and/or look at their ebay page https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/impartsb46 and definitely talk to Luke at Import Car Parts as he may be able to help. Ultimately, it's just a Forester windscreen with the lower heater element. And advice would be warmly welcomed!!
BPR had one supplied/fitted under windscreen cover -

I had mine replaced on my 2004 FSTi
It is bespoke to the FSTi and not 'just a Forester' 'screen which is heated and has a green band across the top - yuk
Must insist your supplier get the proper STi one
Yes - this is what I was under the impression initially. It is bespoke to the FSTi and not 'just a Forester' 'screen which is heated and has a green band across the top - yuk

As it happens, BPR lives just up the road from my old house - i'll have a word with him and see what the deal was with his. I'll also have a word with ICP and see if they can give some advice also... I'm determined to get the 'proper' STi one to keep the car as original as possible.
Thanks guys, I appreciate your help.
I run a JDM STi Impreza with the factory option dark tinted rear windows and rear wiper hole in the glass, which wouldn't be stocked in the UK as they were JDM only options. I bought a full set of the JDM glass from a Subaru breakers for £150 and keep that in my garage just in case they are broken.
Might be worth you contacting some Subaru breakers to see if they have the screen you need from a good condition breaker car.

There are (wiper) heated screens (aftermarket ones) available; have you checked main dealer stock availability too?The other issue I have is that my MOT is due mid-February, so I need a new screen ASAP!

My 05 pre facelift 2.5XT has the heating elements but also the blue sun strip.
Just seen this being broken...worth a punt! https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2...

Removing a windscreen in-tact from another car will be a right mission.
I'm fairly sure your insurer will arrange for the correct one to be sourced - I had a similar issue years ago with an MR2 turbo which had a bronze tint & a built in FM aerial (JDM market only) - they had to get one shipped in from Toyota in Belgium which took a few days.

Thanks for your replies, gents.
As an update, the car is booked in with National Windscreens through my insurance company... We'll see what the fitter turns up with as to weather or not me ramming the point home about the differences in UK/JDM 'screens to the girl in the call centre...
... Fingers crossed!

Already discussed this via email with the OP, but thought I'd post anyhow.
Hope you get it sorted.
As stated above, all JDM SG9 FSTI front screens had no tinted sun visor strip at the top like the UK model cars do. Some FSTI's were the lux model like mine and had the heated windscreen wiper bars (WHICH ARE GREAT) and some JDM FSTI's didn't have this.
Sounds like you need the same screen as mine, general green tint, no sun visor strip and heated wiper bars. These are now IN STOCK in the uk and are genuine Subaru parts only. The windscreen company should be able to get these and in my case needed signing off for the increased purchase price by a manager. This took a month to sign off, but once agreed it was installed within a week.
Should also come with the genuine Subaru rubber, which is certainly worth using as I've had massive wind noise issues with cheaper after market rubbers on a Subaru once after a screen change.
Good luck!
Andy
