Ok I’m back

Any present or past owners of the latest XT foresters

My head says steer towards the diesel outback or the typical CX5 or Rav 4 but my heart is simply drawn to these for no real reason other than I think they look fabulous and some fun times

Tax and fuel looks horrible compared to others so my question to all

Avoid all Subaru diesels. Stick with petrol.

Agreed. If you don't mind an older car the 2.5 turbo engine and manual answers many questions. Constant AWD system is great.

Typical PH thread - ignore what the op said - ie, it’s the latest xt he’s interested in... sorry not tried one of the latest though I also think they look quite tempting. I have had three Subarus - a 1992 legacy turbo, a 2008 diesel outback and a 2009 3.0 petrol outback.

I wouldn’t have an early diesel Subaru again (managed to get rid begorenit died - it was starting to misbehave) but I think the more recent ones are ok - but 150bhp isn’t enough. So that rules out anything other than the forester xt. There is a thread 1-2 yearsbold on here with some current owners’ experience recorded but there weren’t many posts. Not a common car

op, this is not the best place to ask this question. try subaruforester.org/vulletin/75 ...I'm slightly biased in my answer as drive a manual SG9 FXT and love it bits...only this morning treated to a new geo set up in prep for winter. anyway, re' the great karma of sf.org, there are a good number of new FXT owners there and I'm sure they'll be able to help you smile

The 2018 model year is the last for the XT in the UK, it's being discontinued. My 2003 XT auto is getting tired so I ordered a new one last month. It's the last hurrah for cars like this so if you want one get in quick. I'm having to wait until late December/January as it is. The Lineartronic gearbox is good too, more economical than a manual. I did think about a non-turbo in order to get the Eyesight system (no Eyesight on the XT) but I don't think I could live without the performance.
Same for the WRX STI. Apart from a handful of 2018 cars it too is being discontinued in the UK.

Thank you to all for the response and reply’s

It seems I need to make some decisions rather quickly then and such a shame the XT is completely being removed from the already short range the uk seems to get.

Will report back in a few months with some positive results hopefully

I've driven a new XT a fair bit. It's certainly quick enough and the Lineartronic gearbox is very smooth and perfectly matched (has three modes). Subaru have also made this latest model an all together quieter experience, I think with thicker glass and other changes. Steers well, with good road feel and seems all round more rugged than the other more frequently seen competition. Only one drawback, the electric tailgate is a bit slow.

Picked up my new 17/18 XT a few weeks ago having heard that these will be the last of the turbos. 17/18 facelift is much improved over 15, quieter, better CVT, feels quicker, better suspension so worth going new if you can. My dealer has two on order for the new year (Simon at Unity Coventry) but that will be the last of them as they are going the same way as the Sti. The end. So time to make your mind up quick! I could not be happier with mine. Comfortable when I need it to be for family and dogs. S# mode for when you are pushing on with 240bhp and 8 CVT gears. Rare sight and understated too. Sports grill option is nice. Now currently considering a few other items from Jap parts.

I'm hopefully getting mine by the end of the year. Any pics? I'd love to see the grille and anything else you get. Fancy starting a thread?

Here's before and after on the front. The new grille takes away the chrome bling. Next up will be replacements to fog light surrounds as they stand out too much. Going for a matt silver finish like the grille. Then looking at a subtle matt black sti lip to finish it off.

I considered the Outback but did not want to go diesel and wanted more oomph. Plus for some reason the Outbacks don't get DAB (but they do get eyesight).
Given the XT is on its way out I opted for Forester so the "older man's" Outback can wait for now! Outback is a great car though and would be my other choice.

That grille does look nice. Mine will be red so I'll see what it looks like in the metal first. Can't wait to get it even though it is technically my wife's car. Seems an awfully long wait, ordered in early September and no firm date yet but reputedly the end of December. No wonder they don't sell more Subarus.
