Hi everyone,

I'm looking at taking a job reconditioning a Diesel Subaru Forester engine
These engines aren't ones I'm so familiar with, I mainly do the petrol engines.
I've done diesels before, but never a Subaru diesel.

So I'm just wondering if anyone has a copy , or could point me in the right direction, of any specification sheets, with things like torque settings on, just so I can have something to fall back on if my knowledge of the petrol ones isn't enough when rebuilding.

Thanks
Jon

Having spent just over a year on the Legacy owners forum, I'd personally avoid Subaru diesels like the plague, particularly early models. I've seen several people experience catastrophic failure, and that includes cars that are religiously serviced. I get the feeling it's a case of IF not WHEN the engine will die.

Neighbour had a diesel Legacy that lunched its engine, ending in a broken crankshaft. Apparently, a well known issue with earlier diesel boxer engines. Subaru didn't want to help my neighbour as the car didn't have a Subaru service history. Utter bks, really: shame on you Subaru!

Pity. Quite like Subarus, though only of the petrol variety.

I had an outback diesel. Got rid just as the engine was starting to cook out. Slightly influenced by a friend who had a legacy diesel on which he had to replace the engine. Five grand later the replacement started causing problems. I did hear from the garage who had done the work that the torquing up was a nightmare ....
