I received a recall letter from Subaru about this a few weeks ago although Google tells me its old(ish) news. Seems it only applied to '04 - '07 cars. Mine's an '04 WRX wagon.

Anyway, called my nearest dealer http://www.turnerssubaru.co.uk/ near Devizes in Wiltshire who knew all about it. I've not used them before but I drove over, they were waiting for me at 8.30am, car done immediately and I was on my way within an hour. Sign-off document handed over confirming works done and a similar one despatched to Subaru. Very slick indeed.

Unlike Land Rover who have just had my RRS in for a tow bar check, wife took it in, they took the car into workshop, an hour later receptionist handed keys back saying it had been done but no idea what, if it has passed/failed nor was there any paper record to confirm.......just bye-bye!

Well done Subaru. (Had a look at the new STi in the showroom.....that seems like a very big car now)

I received notification of that fault well over a year ago and it was carried out by my local agent straight away. I'm surprised you've only just recently been informed.

I assumed maybe previous owner hadn't got it done and this was a prompt? I've only owned it since last Summer.

Ah, I've owned mine since new so that could well explain the disparity

I had to wait quite a while on mine thanks to parts shortage (a LOT of Toyotas have the same unit, we've been waiting over a year to find out what they're doing with a Yaris).

Got it done back in May/June after registering to have it done in November. The local dealer were only getting two replacement units a month in.

just to clarify after reading up on it , it only applies to impreza's wrx and sti and not other models from 2004 to 2007
