Hi all.
Bought a 2006 Suby Outback 3.0 2006, 107,000 miles with a suspected head gasket fault as a bit of a project.

There's foam in the radiator and it overheats on hills and when pushing it hard. I've just done a coolant pressure test and found a small jet of water leaking from the steel heater return hose. I've ordered a replacement.
Thought I'd bypass the leaking bit with a hose and performed another leak test and it's rock steady when cold but leaks pressure when warm.
I've refilled the coolant and there's a lot of mad bubbling when trying to burp the system.

It looks, sounds and smells like a head gasket has gone but it's very rare on the H6 engine especially at 107K miles.

Am I missing something or am I in for a weekend of pain?

try a sniff test before you take it to pieces , i'm assuming expansion tank cap is ok , my spring went weak on mine and i thought hg but it was not , other thoughts are water pump not circulating properly or thermostat stuck ?

Ask on the Legacy Owners Club. They'll have much more insight.
