Question for you all..

If you hypothetically had £4600 to spend (give or take a few hundred) and needed a car that was semi reliable (as reliable as you'd expect a Scooby of this vintage to be), used daily (commute, once a month 200 mile round trip) would you choose

A) Classic (probably turbo 2k at this budget?)
B) Blobeye WRX

I'm afraid Bugs aren't being considered. My thoughts are the Blob will be younger, more modern to drive but perhaps not as exciting as the classic. The Classic may also appreciate.

History; I've had a hawkerye sport, Blobeye STI and a BRZ. My favourite being the BRZ.

Any thoughts? smile

I dont think £4600 is a great deal now to find something decent for DD. Might be a bit rough round the edges at that price ( any STI ).

Newage WRX. Although the seats are pretty hopeless in a Blob. And the brakes.

I bought an immaculate 54 plate PPP WRX wagon in the Summer for £3500, spent a planned £1000 on it for new tyres and major service.

Value for money at this price!

That's the kind of thing I'm after! Hmm, given me hope that it can be done. Just really tricky choosing between classic and Blob. Damnit. I think this will come down to personal preference.

A classic impreza on stilts. What more do you need?

I like them! I really like them. The reason I'm not looking for one of those is I just simply don't need that size car, I don't have a family, just me and the girlfriend. Nor do I have a dog I can even justify it with. One day it will more than likely become more favorable to have a Forester.. and I don't want to get to that point and be bored of it smile.

I like the light weighted-ness of the classics too. I think that's the main draw.

Second question then; how reliable actually are classics? I don't expect it to be perfect, I just don't want to expect a headgasket to go, if you know what I mean.

I traded from a '00 Classic Wagon to this one. It was the rust that forced my decision, not so much underneath although it was coming but around the screen. To stop the thing leaking I needed to pop it out, cut in some new metal, paint and fit a new one. A real shame as I liked it a lot. Seats were much better! However, as a daily, the new one is much better for purpose, it goes pretty well with the extra Oomph and just feels that bit more up to date. It doesn't leak eithersmile

Prices for even ratty Classics are strong, I owned mine for a year, bought it for £1800, sold it for £1770 with all issues declared.
