Now Subaru-less
Discussion
For the first time in nearly 12 years, I don't have Subaru on the drive. From a total of 5 overall, I've just parted with the Forester, had from new in April 2007 - it just didn't suit what we need any more.
Am currently looking for a late (2013/14) Liberty GT wagon with a manual box as the new family truckster, but not holding my breath as most are autos out here and I can't stand them.
After that, though, I think I'll be done with Subaru for a while. Nothing in the range tickles me. There's no more interesting Liberty/Legacy, never really been an Outback fan, and the Forester XT has that bloody CVT. I know some like it, but not for me. A WRX might be on the cards one day, although a Levorg wouldn't be too bad if its wasn't auto-only - seems the spiritual successor to the Gen4 Liberty GT. As for the BRZ, well I've got a 2+2 already, and might not need another for a while.
Bit of a shame really as I've really enjoyed owning and driving them. Perhaps I'm just a grumpy old sod.

or my jdm wagon , ready for a good home
Drop me a PM if you decide to try and sell it again. Mines got to the point where I need to make a decision whether to throw some more money at it or just drive it into the ground. The alternative is to buy another and swap the parts between the 2.As the OP says, they get under your skin and I can't think of anything better to replace it with, other than a new one!
I foresaw the same dilemma a while ago. I really like my Legacy wagon and would have another one to replace it for sure. The current range (which would be my market in 5-7 years doesn't really have much to tempt me).
I do quite like the Outbacks but not as much as my MY Legacy. I've even considered buying a similar age but much lower mileage Legacy than mine soon, rather than wait until my current one has moon miles on it.

Well, that didn't last long. Have just agreed a price for a Gen 5 GT wagon with 6-sp manual box. There are a few admin things to be sorted around finance against the car to be paid off, but all going well, should have it next weekend. Felt fun on the test drive, and having tried an auto GT immediately afterwards, am happy about the decision to go for three pedals. Comes with sunroof (though not the huge thing of before), leather, McIntosh sound, and lots of other things that I'll probably never use...
Will post a pic when I've got it.

And so, a little under four years later, I'm aiming to be Subaru-less once again. And this time there's no secret possibilities waiting. The Lib is up for sale, the replacement is already on the driveway, and Subaru's insistence that the fast Liberty/Legacy wagon is no longer needed means I'm definitely heading to be without a Sube for a long time. And that's after about 15 or so years of having one around.
Its been a fantastic family hold-all - fun, quick, spacious, and reliable. If you're thinking of getting one, get past the gawky looks, and just buy one. This is bigger and more comfortable than the 05 GT I had before, and has been faster just about everywhere.
Shame that Subaru don't want to play in this sector any more.

What you got in exchange? Mine is only a week or so off landing. Sailed past Southampton to Rotterdam, so must be coming back after its been to Northern Europe first.
Ahh, the excitement - it’s almost tangible Have got a bit of a barge as a replacement - 2016 VF2 Holden Calais V8 - posh Commodore wagon, but 6.2 litre and 415bhp through the rear wheels might be entertaining. And Not German means it won’t cost several body parts if it goes wrong.
Didn’t have to think about that with the Lib though - it just never went wrong in four years. Will also miss the way it just fits me and is so easy to flick around for a comfortable 5-seat wagon.
If you’re looking for one the engine and box are from the WRX tuned to 265bhp in this case, so there’s a shed load of info out there. The rest of it is tough too, I’ve got three kids that have tested the interior. and I’ve not found any obvious problems. Oil changes and servicing by the book as a minimum are must haves, otherwise just drive it!
