New "surprised" owner checking in
Discussion
Well I never went out to buy a Scooby and they have never ever crossed my radar but it seems perfect. 2006 Legacy Outback 3.0 Rn will be collected on tuesday after the £500 (!) and insurance is sorted.
Last winter we had a XC70 D5 Volvo for the winter hack that lunched its auto box and cost me £1k plus it was like driving a tractor round town. This Outback drove beautifully, has just been serviced and its MOT history has no recent advisories and a full ticket! plus its just been serviced.
I paid the dealer £3990 for it on 60k miles and I think it needs no expenditure however it has a knock from the nearside rear that hasnt appeared on the MOT so not a shock I guess, the owners notes say it has always done it and as I bought from a dealer if it develops I can expect it to be fixed. Anyone know of a knock type noise from the rear on uneven ground, to my untrained ear it sounds like the exhaust.
On the test drive it was faultless, the huge sunroof however has a design flaw in that I cant reach the shade when driving so I can open and close it but not shield it.

I've got a 3.0 litre Outback with 160K miles and it still drives beautifully. Good luck with the car, sounds like a bargain. Not sure what you mean about the sunroof? Are you trying to close the cover whilst the roof is open? The knock from the rear could be the drop link, but that sounds a bit obvious given that it has not been rectified.

Thanks for replying - the roof shield doesn't close with the roof so I'll look into that. The car just passed an mot with no advisories surely they would have picked up a knackered drop link - might be a shock.
I pick it up on Tuesday - quite chuffed
I don't think the shield is meant to close with the roof, mine does the same thing. Get yourself on to uklegacy.com for all the info you need. The first thing I would do is change the bearings in the pulleys on the auxiliary belt. When they fail, you'll lose power steering and the alternator. It's an easy DIY job and less than £10 if you buy the bearings.

Cheers will do congrats on the purchase.
I have been running a 2007 outback 3.0r for the last 3 years and over 40k miles, its currently showing 83k miles and been perfect so far, with just consumables needed in addition to droplinks and bushes up front. (having said that I have needed 4 tyres, brakes and discs all round and a new exhaust in the last 12 months).
I have been considering chopping it in over the last 6 months, but in all honesty, it does everything well and I cant think of anything that would suit my current needs for a car any better.

Thanks on that - the exhaust - its just had 12 months MOT last week and a service so I hope its ok but was it the Y piece ? if so what did you do?
yep, the infamous Y piece, I left it as long as I dared (it was an advisory for 2 mots!) by the time I got around to sorting it out the leak extended down both of the rear sections, and at least one of the joints were corroded I took it to the local powerflow shop, they said that the back boxes were probably ok and they could reuse, but I had them do a cat back stainless system it was about £500, and sounds a bit more fruityCollected the car today and pleasantly surprised, I have a full service history it's done 60k in 10 years! Every mot and invoice. It's recently fully serviced with brakes and fluids inc gearbox! Very good
Everything works as it should, steering is very light but as the wife will drive it that's no bad thing
However whilst I have 2 working keys I don't have the pin for the keypad, is this on the car anywhere ?

He's saying he can't reach the blind, I think - it's too far back.I can reach mine just fine but if you open it up back to the final position it will go back further, possibly beyond your reach. Or you have short arms.

- ** I am not happy with a Parrot kit it looks tacky so for now I will use a sunvisor bluetooth speaker and make calls with SiRi
