Hi all,

Was wanting to get a new exhaust system but due to some quite silly circumstances that we shall not discuss, I'm restricted to having the car look completely stock. In terms of improving the exhaust system for both performance and getting a better noise, would it be a viable option to chop open a standard backbox, take out all of the innards and weld in a straight pipe through the middle of it? I'm thinking combining this with a decat downpipe would give a lot more performance/noise while still looking 100% stock.

Stupid idea?

If so, does anyone know of any exhaust systems (doesn't have to be full system, cat-back is fine) that look very stock but still provide good performance gains when combined with a remap?

Car is a Hawkeye WRX (hence the name!)

Cheers

Prodrive backbox is okay. I doubt you'll find an aftermarket exhaust with twin pipes like the standard one. Mate tried gutting his but didn't sound nice.

Would the Prodrive box be classed as a standard part? Or at least could it be argued that it is?

Dealer-fit option I think (along with the rest of the Prodrive Pack). Maybe an STI exhaust would do?

just go to an exhaust place and get them to make you an exact replica, but in stainless steel ( mid section you can enlarge the bore as wont be seen ).

BCS ( powervalve ) have done a few.
