hi all...i have a quick question regarding methanol as im new to it but have done alot of research...my car is mapped for v-power and v power plus 20% methanol on the syvecs...,what damage would be caused if i drove in the meth map without meth in the tank just v power and visa versa..(drove in v power only map WITH 20% meth in)? it will never happen but am i right in saying it would be safe in the v power map WITH 20% meth in the tank? thanks in advance.
I'm no expert or water methanol injection (apart from thinking it sounds awesome) but I know that the advantage of methanol is that you can run higher compression/more aggressive timing without suffering detonation (my step father raced a 1950s car on pure methanol). So logically running the meth mix map on petrol would run the same risks as running a v-power only map on supermarket 95. A problem which I've suffered on a mapped subaru.

If you drove on the meth map without meth you would probably melt a piston as meth allows more ignition advance and for the car to be run leaner. vice versa on the v power map with meth in tank you would be fine and the meth will just be wasted. The syvecs is a quality bit of kit and can have trips wired to protect against low oil pressure, lost fuel pressure and such like. It will also retard timing should it detect det beyond a certain threshold.

Some times a bit of det is too much and even if timing is knocked off it maybe too late
Well if you get the maps the wrong way round its pretty much asking for it but touch wood to date with 3 big power subarus, the syvecs has kept the engine safe. If you're really paranoid about mixing the maps up, get a flex fuel sensor to make life easier20% meth straight into the tank, seems an expensive way to do it if you using the car daily? Is this a track car?
Back in 2005 when I was running 50:50 water/meth injection on my twinscroll we had it mapped to trigger at certain boost and inlet temps, so I didn't waste it unduly, but still had the extra power and torque on tap.
I am missing something obvious, aren't I???

not at all its just my summer weekend toy mate,...running 480bhp with 20% meth...car gets sorned over the winter so obviously the tank will be empty of all meth as i heard it seperates when left over a long timeBack in 2005 when I was running 50:50 water/meth injection on my twinscroll we had it mapped to trigger at certain boost and inlet temps, so I didn't waste it unduly, but still had the extra power and torque on tap.

Im sure it will be tuned to deliver on a certain boost pressure, and load.
Therefore as long as you dont go round giving it WOT wide open throttle everywhere and taking it the redline.
I had the low octain map removed from my car recently. If I get caught out on 95, i just wont boot it and it will be fine.

yeah the reason i asked the original question was incase i ever went low on fuel an there was a shell garage handy...id just put abit of v power in and switch to v power map...i wasnt sure if having meth in there too would have a bad effect...im from the north west and i want to get to alot of shows this year down south and tbh carrying meth and v power in my boot doesnt tickle my fancy...i did it when i went to santa pod the other week.. i certainly dont drive like an idiot but if anyone rear ended me with all that in there well.....adios amigo. Therefore as long as you dont go round giving it WOT wide open throttle everywhere and taking it the redline.
