So I’ve finally narrowed down the search to two styles of car. The gb270 estate and the forester sti.

Now I know that both are completely different but the other half and I like both. I have read everything I can possibly find on both cars and for the most both seem like a winner, both are quick in their own way, both are different to other similar type cars on the road now, both are getting a bit long in the tooth but it doesn’t bother either of us.

Whichever we buy will be used as a family car and my daily driver (20 mile round trip).

So my question is quiet simple, if you had both and had no other choice but to sell one, which would you sell, and why would you keep the one you didn’t sell?

How big is your family - what ages are they? The Forester has more room

Are they both stock - do you planning on keeping them both stock? If so, keep the WRX. If you want more power, keep the FSTI.

I have an 18 month old, planning on number 2 in a couple of months. So currently 3 in the family. No dog. The plan is to keep it for atleast 5 years, maybe longer, and I intend on keeping it standard, well apart from the exhaust, that is if it's burble doesn't meet shmbo's eardrums.

Sell the FSTI then. It'll be no faster than the WRX stock, will cost more to run and be worth more to sell.

FSTI is the more practical , a map will improve mpg , it's quicker than a wrx even as standard mine was 285 Bhp before mapped plus sti better gearbox and quick spooling turbo plus you will get better mpg with the fsti , it will depreciate less , drove the gb270 its not as nice plus thin paint , fsti is the best Subaru I've had

He isn't getting it mapped.
It will be no quicker than a 270 when you account for the weight difference
Nothing spools quicker than a tiny WRX TD04, certainly not a Vf39/41 as found on an FSTI
Worse MPG with the shorter ratio 6-speed and heavier FSTI
It will depreciate less but will cost more to run - brakes, tyres, anything with "STI Tax"

It's a "Better" car than the 270, no doubt but the Impreza better suits the OP's requirements IMHO.

There is 70 kg difference in weight Foz being heavier , the fsti box is not close ratio my jdm Sti bugeye is , the 6th is supposed to be 14 per cent taller than standard on the fsti , yes discs are more pads about the same , i would be surprised if fsti in standard spec is slower than a gb270 , I'm paying out very little difference between the cars I'm running no brembos on the bugeye

If you get the FSTI it really deserves a remap, as it transforms the car.

Otherwise it just depends on whether you want that bit (and its a small "bit") of extra ground clearance and the extra space.

I totally agree with remap plus you will get better mpg after it , they can be as cheap as 350£

Very minor point, but I often see that decent pads are cheaper on the STI than WRX. I've always put this down to the pad fitting a much wider range of cars than the oddball callipers on the WRX (WRX, some Supras and Toyota Hilux is all I've noticed with them) so being produced in higher volume.

I'd rather have a Forester over an Impreza any day for a daily
