1994 JDM EJ20G WRX GF8
Discussion
I've been looking for accurate information for a very long time, and just happened to see an article on the PistonHeads site about a JDM 1994 WRX Wagon.
Would anyone care to help out someone from a former colony?
I have an JDM EJ20G WRX engine and 5 spd. transmission, but I need a engine wiring harness and ECU. After the engine is running for awhile I will be upgrading a few items and will want the best performance available. I have been studying EFI tuning and such. My first choice would be a piggyback system for the ECU but I have not been able to find a product for that year of engine.
Does anyone have experience in this field, can a later model ECU be used, does the ECU have to be a JDM model?
The Subaru engine and trans will be installed in a Karmann Ghia that will be totally restored.
thanks from British Columbia

It all depends on whether there is anyone over there that can do the mapping for you.
The preferred option in the UK is the ESL system, which uses a mappable chip that is soldered into the standard ECU. It's relatively cheap and allows you to run without a MAF if you wish.
An alternative is the Apexi ECU, which is a complete ECU that replaces the original completely. The downside to it is that you need to retain the MAF. But that's not an issue until you get to 350 bhp plus.
