Yesterday i saw someone on FB selling there blob wrx with a claimed 350bhp. The mods where as follows :

TD05 20G
PINK INJECTORS
WALBRO INLINE PUMP
FMIC
CONE FILTER
3" TURBO BACK
3 PORT
TGV DELETE

I personally think thats a bit rich. I have a blob myself , mapped and decatted. It feels around 270 ish and is really fun if a lot slower than my previous car. I didnt want to go down the power mod route but if thats all it takes i will.

Are you asking if it's possible on those mods? If so, yes it is....but your block and gearbox will be a ticking time bomb as that's pushing it to the limit.

I hope you enjoy changing gearboxes hehe

The 5 speed is really a 300hp box, any more and you're rolling dice.

The gearbox is nice and tight now even with high mileage , i dont drive like a tw@t and have mechanical sympathy. Its something i will look into for sure in the new year.

I have a make shift induction kit , so im guessing all i would need to hit 300 is , 3 port , turbo inlet , fuel pump ,injectors and the mother of all remaps.

If i could get 300 on the standard turbo even better. I did promise myself after going down the same power route with my MPS its fools gold. However i cant help myself .

You don't need a 3 port on a blob.

Decat the system (all 3 cats) or at least leave a sports cat centre in.

You may get a VF34 up to 300 bhp but it really will depend on your luck on the day.

Some people run up to 350bhp on standard WRX internals and gearbox and have no probs....others go bang....luck of the draw.

I ran 350bhp on a standard RB5 for 75000 miles (and the engine was used hard). When it was pulled apart to make way for a 2.5, the engine was pristine. The gearbox and clutch were standard to and I had no issues with those either (this was back in the days when the phrase "chocolate pistons" was popular and opinions rife that over 300bhp in a UK would lead to instant destruction - utter bks based on mine and others proven experience).

As for gearboxes , it's not the power so much as torque that kills them. We ran a blobeye 5 speed when the car was producing 400lb/ft and it coped for a while. The ppp that was fitted to the blob had torque at 310lbft so the gearbox can comfortably handle more IMO).

The 2.0T can usually go over 400bhp without trouble however the clutch and gearbox usually suffer but lots of cars have been over 350bhp without issue if driven with some mechanical sympathy.

My RB5 is at 345bhp. The clutch started slipping at about 290bhp (and approximately the same torque). I'm now running a pink box clutch and the standard gearbox with no problems whatsoever.

Generally most believe that 330-340bhp is the max for the 5 speed gearboxes and anything over that becomes a bit of a lottery however a lot depends on how the cars are driven.

Getting to 350bhp shouldn't be too difficult although I've gone down a more expensive route; forged internals, converted to twin scroll (VF37), Alcatek ECU etc. This makes the route far more expensive but should mean a fast road car that can also support a lot more power in the future if I want it. It should also be a lot safer for the engine.

My car is fully decatted and mapped.

So just a turbo , fuel pump and injectors then. Is there anywhere reputable that could do a drive in and out service in the midlands.

Kamikaze Racing in Birmingham have a good following.

Will do the work and the remap you will require after the parts are fitted.

Have you upgraded the brakes from the standard WRX? I would if you are pushing the power up.

No still the stock items . I have read up on the brembo upgrade , but fitting used items doesn't sit well with me. K sport BBK seems to be the only other alternative as its the calipers that are the weak point.

You can always buy them 2nd hand and then refurb them? Godspeed brakes do decent refurb kits.

I guess it depends on how much you want to spend to be honest. Plenty of people upgrade their WRX with a 2nd hand brembo set up and never have a problem.

It does make a big difference in stopping capabilities especially teamed with the right set of discs and pads.

If you are going above 300bhp I would sort the brakes....even with PPP, on standard WRX it didn't fill me with confidence.

I have just been quoted a drive in/ drive out deal to get to 330ish bhp by the local specialist pole positon.

vf35 turbo
pink injectors
fuel pump
remap
fitting

£1200

I am in two minds whether to keep the car longer than few months but my god is it fun attacking a corner.
