I'm running a 05 Impreza WRX. On an earlier service, the garage ordered a 'service pack' for the car that included a Crossland paper air filter; since I have a K&N filter fitted, this was surplus to requirements. As it was part of a pack, the garage couldn't return it seperately, so I now have it.

Before I post it on an auction site - or on here* - does anyone know what else it fits? IMHO I'm more like to find a buyer if say it fits a a NA Forester, as many turbo Impreza owners are probably running hi-flow filters or induction kits.
So two questions:
1. Is it a common part across all Subaru 2.0 turbo engines? N/A engines? Legacys and Foresters?

2. An Impreza-tweaking colleague has said that oiled-cotton air filters, such as K&N, can mess with the MAF sensor by coating it in oil. Any truth in this?

It should be the same for all EJ20s
I don't use oiled ones for that reason. I have a Cosworth panel filter in the Outback and a Greencotton one in the Forester.

I thought the oil filters and the classic MAFs didnt mix well.. but for newage Iv seen a few on scoobynet running KnN, and I certainly did for 2.5 years and no issues with MAF.

the Mrs' 2003 WRX STi has run a K&N for about 4 years - until I put a paper one in last month when I serviced it smile
no problems to report;
though she says the car is faster now after the service
The K&N was full of crap when removed

All the crap the filter, well, filters from the air has to sit somewhere. K&N say max 50k miles between cleaning, if its been on for 4 years it might just have needed a good clean.

If you still have it, give it a good clean and should be as good as new

Exactly - though it was clearly blocking airflow with this much rubbish in it !

I have cleaned it - jus tneed to oil it now

I've read that you dont need the K&N oil - just a light/medium general purpose oil

I'll keep the paper filter in it for a bit now -car is only doing about 2K PA now - I'll swap the K&N back in next service next year !
